How Municipal Maintenance Service, LLC Got Started.
While working as a Public Works Superintendent, I saw firsthand that many operational issues and rising city costs were the result of insufficient maintenance of water and wastewater systems. Through conversations with the DNR and other affidavit operators in the area, it became clear this was a statewide issue—often caused by limited resources, knowledge gaps, and a lack of emphasis on proactive maintenance in smaller communities.

Coming from a military background, I understand that routine maintenance is essential to keeping equipment reliable and ready when it’s needed most. That experience led me to become an Affidavit Operator and focus on educating small-town public works employees and city councils on proper maintenance practices. The goal is to reduce overhead costs, extend the life of critical equipment, and ultimately help prevent or delay rate increases for residents.
The History Of Municipal Maintenance Service, LLC.
Our business began in a simple, hands-on way—by helping a friend (now a valued employee) who was working as an Affidavit Operator. I started on the side, repairing equipment and performing routine maintenance wherever help was needed. At the time, many companies in the area focused primarily on selling costly parts, and no one was offering comprehensive valve exercising services, despite how critical that work is. I saw a gap and knew I could help fill it.

For several years, the company operated as a small side business while I worked full time. By March 2024, demand had grown enough to allow me to commit to the business full time. It all started with a single, well-worn valve-exercising machine I purchased from a junkyard in Texas. I rebuilt it myself and put it back to work. From there, our client base grew year after year through hard work, reliable service, and word of mouth.

As the business expanded, so did our services. What began with valve exercising has grown to include affidavit operations, fire hydrant flushing and rebuilding, grinder pump rebuilding, equipment maintenance, and hands-on training for municipal operators—helping them manage their systems safely, efficiently, and with confidence.

Cody
Brian
Cody is the Owner and Operator of MMS, LLC, bringing a strong background in maintenance and operations. After serving five years in the U.S. Navy, he spent seven years in the wind turbine industry and two years working in Public Works for the City of Gilmore City. Since 2020, Cody has worked alongside Brian Klien, providing maintenance and repair solutions. In 2022, he started MMS, LLC to better serve local communities. Cody is also Level 2 certified in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, and Wastewater.
Brian brings over 30 years of experience in the water and wastewater industry. He currently serves as the Public Works Superintendent for the City of Livermore and the City of Bode, and is a Certified Operator by Affidavit with Kuehl and Payer, Ltd. In 2008, Brian founded North Iowa Environmental, LLC, which later merged with Municipal Maintenance Services, LLC in 2024. He holds Level 2 certifications in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, and Wastewater, and is known for his hands-on expertise and dedication to keeping municipal systems running efficiently.
